The butterfly effect

A meteorologist in the United States put forward a theory called the "Butterfly Effect." The effect is that a butterfly in the Amazon rain forest of South America flaps its wings several times. It may trigger a tornado storm in Texas America in a few weeks. This theory seems impassable, but the possibility can't be said not. Looking back, many historical events and natural phenomena in the global village are a series of "relations" and repeated occurrences; who can think of it? In 1914, the Crown Prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was assassinated and triggered the WWⅠ, then the "Treaty of Versailles " signed after the end of the war became the trigger of the Chinese May 4th Movement and the WWⅡ. Soldiers and civilians killed and wounded in two wars, more than 100 million, it is terrible!

The 1958 revolution in Iraq is thousands of miles away from Taiwan, triggering the Quemoy Crisis (Kinmen 823 artillery combat). The photo below shows my father and his colleagues from a military exercise in southern Taiwan in 1957. Then he was assigned to the front line of the Quemoy (Kinmen) as a signalman next year, and I was only four years old then. God blessed him; fortunately, he returned safely after the war's end and is still healthy.

Earlier in 1894, Korean Peninsula, which is more than 1,000 kilometers away from Taiwan, had internal chaos that triggered the Qing-Japanese war; the Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed in 1895, and Taiwan was ceded to Japan, Taiwanese began 50 years of Japanese rule. Twenty years later, the Tapani incident occurred in southern Taiwan; in August 1915, my seven ancestors were killed by the Japanese (1).

The compensation for the Qing-Japanese war was 200 million ounces, most of which Japan used to expand its armaments. Ten years later, in 1905, the Japanese-Russian war defeated the Russian Empire, triggering a series of revolutions in the Russian Empire. Eventually, the communist revolution took place in 1917. Four years later, In 1921, the Russian Communist Party began to support the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party, the far-reaching cause of the Chinese civil war.

Japan defeated two great empires in ten years, believing it was unbeatable in the world, and gambling was more significant. Then colonized Korean Peninsula in 1921; 1931, September 18th invaded northeast China and established the "puppet Manchurian state" 1937 ambition was enormous; wanted to swallow the whole of China, and the July 7th Lugou Bridge incident triggered China's all-out war. In 1941 this "play" was the biggest; Hawaii, about 6,000 kilometers away from Japan, had become the target, but they never expected to provoke a sleeping lion. At this time, Hitler of Germany was in the European War on going smoothly. The United States remained neutral at the beginning. Only the folks helped the action. The Japanese move allowed the US Congress to participate in the war. Japan eventually became the only country in the world being the atomic bombs hit, which almost destroyed the country! Just half a century from 1895 to 1945, two messes problems left after Japan surrendered can't be resolved:

1. Taiwan returned to the Republic of China in 1945; the Nanjing Republic of China was already devastated by the eight-years war. The joy of victory soon turned into a civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. In 1949, the "People's Republic of China" was established in Beijing, and the "Republic of China" in Nanjing, retreated to Taiwan; US President Truman issued the "White Paper on China," stating that he would no longer interfere in China's internal affairs. To put it bluntly, he wants to let the Republic of China retreat to Taiwan to live by itself. The strait's two sides have only begun four years of exchange. In the four years, in 1947, the February 28th incident happened, unfortunately. It's the primary reason for Taiwan's blue, green, unified, and independent debates today.

2. After the Japanese withdrawal from the Korean peninsula, the two victorious countries, the United States and the Soviet Union drew a power dividing line in the middle of the Korean peninsula at 38 degrees north latitude. Still, North Korea hoped that Korean Peninsula should reunite as a nation. The Korean War in 1950 occurred, and US President Truman had to slap his mouth and thought that Taiwan was still applicable. He sent the Seventh Fleet to patrol the Taiwan Strait to prevent the PRC from crossing the sea to liberate Taiwan. The Korean internal chaos in 1894 caused Taiwan to become a Japanese colony. Then half a century later, after the reunification of the North and the South (Korean War), there were more than 3 million dead and wounded soldiers and civilians on both sides. Although the post-war problem returned to its original position, this time, it saved Taiwan.

To the historical facts, the culprit is the Empress Dowager Cixi of the Qing Dynasty. If it was not for her to use the Beiyang Navy's military expenses to cover her villa estate – the Summer Palace (Note 2), the Qing-Japanese War could not have been defeated by Japan. The above-mentioned series of historical events also won't happen. To put it bluntly, Cixi is the ugliest black butterfly in Chinese history.

Note 2: Although the Qing archives data displayed in the name of Emperor Guangxu, to build Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace as the Beiyang Naval Training Base, it became a leisure garden after the construction of Cixi's retirement. Guangxu can't approve such a large project.
