Safety rules

After a long time of improvement and testing, the improved safety of bamboo chopsticks guns ( NewRBGs ) is higher than traditional ones. But like all guns, improper usage could cause serious injury, especially eyes! Therefore, we strongly recommended to wear a protective mask or goggles when using it, and the following rules must be strictly observed during use:

1. At any time, don't point a gun at people or animals, except for a few harmful insects such as flies, mosquitoes, and cockroaches.

2. Children are forbidden to use alone, and parents must accompany them to play.

3. Children should not chase while playing with guns to prevent the sharp parts of guns from stabbing.

4. It is forbidden to use rubber bands other than the specified specifications.

5. Do not exceed the specified amount of rounds when loading. Shooter must read the instructions carefully before shooting.

6. Rubber bands aging may break and cause backward shooting; it should be eliminated to ensure safety.

7. If a newRBG is damaged or broken, it should be eliminated or repaired before use.

8. It is forbidden to modify NewRBG; otherwise, you will be responsible for your problems.

9. When a NewRBG is not in use, remove all loaded rubber bands to prevent accidental shots.

10. When a NewRBG may not use for a long time, the trigger elastic rubber band should be removed.

■ What is the meaning of RBG of newRBG?

A: R B G refers to the three primary colors of Red, Blue, and Green in color TV. And It's also the abbreviation of Rubber Band Gun here.

■ What is the safety of NewRBG?

A: The safety of the NewRBG is much higher than traditional bamboo chopsticks guns. There was no burst or backward shooting during the long-term testing. But in the loading process, the fingers may not pinch properly. Rubber bands may slip off and shoot out, so we strongly recommend always wearing a goggle or protective mask to protect your and others' eyes, and don't point guns at any people or animals at any time.

■ What is the principle of the anti-burst gate?

A: The anti-burst gate has two protective functions: 1. There is an auto-filling process between two shoots during shooting; the anti-burst gate reduces the vibration of rubber bands to prevent rubber bands escape from the muzzle and causing a burst or backward shooting. 2. the gate can block broken rubber bands and not hurt the shooter's eyes, and it can also be used as a sight when shooting.

■ What is the difference between "loading" and "filling"?

A: "Loading" is to load all the bullets before shootings, such as eight rounds loading, ten rounds loading, 12 rounds loading, etc. " Filling " is an automatic filling between two shoots.

■ What is “ Fly-back filling”? what is the role of the Fly-back filling rod?

A: The term "Fly-back" of "Fly-back filling" is taken from the term "Fly-back" in CRT TV scanning theory. There are short moments (A few microseconds) in the TV scanning process. When a scanning line is complete, the scanning return to the starting position of the following scanning line, called the [Fly-back Period ]. The term [ Fly-back filling ] has the same meaning as return fast.

In the NewRBG, when a rubber band is shot, the next round of rubber band automatically fills in mini-seconds; these short moments could cause headaches in TV or NewRBG. It's all caused by "oscillation" or "vibration." one is an electronic signal in micro-seconds; the other is a physical motion in mini-seconds. In CRT TVs, there is a circuit to reduce the oscillations called the [ringing reduction circuit]. In NewRBG, The "Fly-back filling rod" is set on the rear of the anti-burst gate; the gate is set for minimize rubber bands' vibration during filling.

■ How many bullets can be loaded to the newRBG?

A: In the long term of testing, the rubber band specifications specified by the Japan Rubber Band Shooting Association (thinner) are about 15 rounds; in others, specifications are about 12 rounds. But we recommend that you don't over 8 rounds for a long time use. Please refer to the "Rubber Band Knowledge" below for details about rubber band specifications.

■ I bought brand new rubber bands; why do I often shot two or more rounds at one shoot or fail to fire.

A: During the final stage of rubber band manufacturing, the water-based silicone oil is added, which is slippery, to prevent rubber bands from sticking together during transportation or storage. The silicon oil will cause disorder during the loading or filling process. If used urgently, we recommend washing it with soap or a small amount of detergent and shooting them after drying. The silicon oil will slowly evaporate when exposed to the air too. For the detail, please refer to "Rubber Band Knowledge" below.

■ Why does the NewRBG firing head have to be shaped like an index finger?

A: The distance between the firing head to the muzzle (x.y) and the firing head to the fly-back filling rod (y.z) are different (see above and below figs). The index finger sharp to compensate this difference.

During shooting: The firing head leans forward, a smaller exterior angle on the firing head and the virtual extension line (green) and rubber bands easily slip out (shooting).

During the filling: The firing head leans backward, the exterior angle between the "virtual extension line" (red) and the firing head is extensive, and rubber bands are difficult to "slip out".

The firing head is initially made as the mouthpiece shape of a flute to compensate for this difference, and later considered that children may be stabbed by a fall during shooting or chasing, and eventually changed to the index finger shape. If you carefully compare the red arrow (loading point) and the green arrow (filling point) of the index finger (arc) and the mouthpiece shape (line), the distances are the same. When loading, this distance ensures the rubber bands loading on the surface of the firing head roll a few more laps. When filling, the 1st round of rubber band was shot, the firing head leans backward, the 2nd round of rubber band rolled up by the reverse torsion, and it's enough up to green arrow and easy to "slip out," and the fly-back filling completed in mini-seconds.

When loading, the rubber bands are put on the red arrow point and rolling down on the surface of the firing head, then the reverse torsion generates; the rolling distance is longer, and the reverse torsion is stronger.

When filling, the reverse torsion will make rubber bands easy to rise to the green arrow and easy to slip out (shooting). It's the most critical tech; NewRBG can load more rounds of rubber bands.

■ Can NewRBG have oil or water on it? Why?

A: The New-RBG uses the “Fine surface friction” of the firing head to complete the loading and fly-back filling. Therefore, if oil or water on the surface of the firing head, the rubber band will slip on the surface of it, and the “fly-back filling” will disorder and cause burst or backward shooting.

■ NewRBG and rubber bands can't be clean with organic solvents? Why?

A: There is a special transparent lacquer on the surface of the firing head, the rubber band is also naturally afraid of organic solvents and It is harmful for the human health. Therefore, it can't be cleaned with organic solvents.

Myth of friction

There is a painter riding a motorcycle on the road; then an accident occurs, the paint spill on the road; then several motorcycles follow behind and fall one by one too! The general cognition must be that the paint makes the rough asphalt road smooth, the motorcycle tires have a lower grip and cause slippery.

The above theory seems to be correct but seems to have a problem? The smoother surface, the easy slip? But if you rub an eraser on the glass and then rub it on the sandpaper, the resistance on the sandpaper is relatively tiny, but the resistance on the glass is considerable! The miracle is that if you pour paint on the glass and then rub it with an eraser again, the resistance on the glass will become smaller and slippery. It is the same when the motorcycle runs over the paint and falls on the road. It is so confusing right? Why is this happening?

A physics says that the seemingly subtle surface is still rich in the rough surface when viewed with a high-magnification microscope. When the surface of two objects is detailed to a certain extent, the molecules or atoms on the surface of the two objects will contact each other, especially soft and hard objects such as rubber and glass. The close contact between the two sides increases the adhesion of many molecules and atoms. The resistance to movement between the two objects also increases, which sounds like some truth!

However, don't care about that; the improved bamboo chopsticks gun uses this "Ordinary and mysterious " force to achieve more loading. No matter the loading or the filling, rubber bands are rolling rather than sliding.

When loading: the firing head leaning forward, rubber bands roll down on the surface of the firing head, the torsion is generated, distance longer the torsion stronger due to the fine-surface friction. When the final round rubber band is loaded, the firing head leans backward, and all the rubber bands are blocked. When shooting: the firing head leaning forward, all loaded rubber bands had reverse torsion on it, the lower, the torsion stronger, but only the top one can slip out (shooting), then firing head lean backward and the 2nd rubber band filled in mini seconds automatic, and the 3rd one be blocked and so on. That's why we constantly mention that the firing head and rubber bands can't be contaminated by oil or water.

◆ Rubber band knowledge

■ The origin of the rubber band

[ Rubber band ] also called [ elastic band ], some people in mainland China called [ monkey skin band ] or [ cowhide band ], Japanese called [輪ゴム orオーバンド] (Exotic word O- Band). Rubber bands were invented in the mid 19 century and used for more than 100 years.

The raw material is rubber tree latex. It's origin in Central and South America before Columbus discovered American Continents. The former Maya and Incas began to use latex to make waterproof, ritual, and entertainment products. In 1839, Charles Goodyear of the United States stumbled upon adding sulfur to rubber and then heating them could increase the elasticity and put them at a higher temperature, it's known as vulcanization. In 1845, the British Stephen Perry used this feature to invent the rubber band. Today, more than 100 years have passed, and these seemingly inconspicuous tiny things are tightly tied to people's lives. Today you can see them in the industries, post office, stationery, newspaper, beauty, and even doctors and farmers.

Rubber bands are mainly produced from natural rubber tree latex; rubber trees prefer in hot and humid environments. Equatorial and tropical regions such as the Amazon River in South America, Africa, Congo, and Southeast Asia, such as the Malay Peninsula, and Indonesia, have been planted. Most of the earlier rubber producing areas are in Central and South America. But productions moved to Southeast Asia in decades, including Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In contrast, rubber band production is concentrated in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Singapore, especially in Vietnam; almost half of the rubber bands produced in the market came from the region.

■ Specifications of rubber bands

For International appliances such as sockets, clothing, and other specifications, there is no uniform rubber band specification. Taiwan, China, Europe, America, and Japan have similar specifications, but the numbers are not identical. Fortunately, the specification measurement method is consistent. So as long as you pay attention to the number, you can use each other. The figure below is the main specification of the rubber band.

1. Diameter: Refers to the inner diameter.

2. Lay flat length: The length of the flat ends of the rubber band.

3. Full length: The total length measured after the rubber band is cut, equal to twice the lay flat length.

4. Cut width: The width of cut of the rubber band.

5. Thickness: The difference between the outer diameter and the inner diameter.

As I mentioned above, the specifications of the rubber bands in the world are inconsistent. During the improvement and testing of the NewRBG, I found that the size of the rubber bands number was different between Taiwan and Japan; it's taken me a long time to figure out the specifications of rubber bands worldwide.

The table above compares the rubber band specifications of countries globally; the yellow part is suited for NewRBG, Taiwanese #17 is equal to European, American, and Japanese #16. And it was specified by the Japanese [Rubber Band Gun Shooting Association].

Chinese stander: The Inner diameter is the specification number in China. Therefore, Taiwanese #17 is equal to Chinese #38.

■ Physical properties of rubber bands

Simple things usually hide many ordinary senses. There are two rubber bands in Figure 4; Both are Taiwanese Standard #17, European, US, Japanese #16, and Chinese stander #38 cause they are 38 mm in diameter.

The left can stretch to 35 cm, and the right can extend to 27 cm; we take shootings with a 270 mm NewRBG (Figure 5); the left shooting distance is 9.3 meters, and the right one is 7.2, the difference more than two meters.

There are different physical characteristics below, information from rubber band supplier: The left is grade A, and the right is grade B; one kilogram differs by 40 $NTD, which may contain different rubber materials. Natural rubber elasticity is better but more expensive; synthetic rubber cost comparison Low, but elasticity is also poor; it may also be a different process such as "vulcanization."

■ Factors affecting rubber band life

In addition to the above physical characteristics, the life of the rubber band is also a critical reference indicator; playing rubber band guns must know. Several essential factors affecting the life of rubber bands are temperature, sunlight, solvent, and usage.

■ Temperature:

According to the children's experiment, rubber bands were heated on the porcelain plate; when the temperature was over 80°C, the texture deteriorated, and heated to 100 ° C, rubber bands started melting, But there was no apparent change in the room temperature or low-temperature environment. Therefore, it is best to store the rubber bands at a low temperature when not in use.

■ Sunlight:

Like plastic products, sunlight is also one of the enemies of rubber products. According to children's experiments, rubber bands are packaged in several different colors of transparent cellophane and placed in the sunlight for long-term observation. The extent of damage to rubber bands is, Blue light, white light, green light, yellow light, red light, and opaque. The rubber band is also afraid of ultraviolet rays. When not in use should be stored in an unclear and low-temperature environment.

In my childhood, we lived in a rural mountain area; there was no electricity before my 3rd grade (1960 s). Before that, we lit kerosene light (see pic. below) at night. I was curious to put the rubber band into the kerosene light bottle; next day, the rubber band swelled as the outer ring in the figure below. It was full of fun, and then the elasticity reduced, and it was easy to break. Organic solvents such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and toluene can damage rubber bands in the same way. ■ Use cases

The use cases includes the extent of stretching during use, the frequency of use, and the environment of use. For example, the same type of NewRBG use #16 and #18, the #16 is much stretched and the life is shorter, the more frequently usage, the life will reduce faster. The use environment is related to the above three items and will not be repeated again.
